Megan
Megan has been married to her husband Mike for 13 years. Together they have two beautiful children: Kinsley, 9 and Mason, 6. She enjoys boating, wakeboarding, camping, and cheering on her kids during whatever sports season it is!
Megan randomly received her BRCA1 genetic mutation diagnosis after updating her family history and undergoing genetic testing at a women’s wellness appointment in February 2024. She chose to undergo prophylactic surgery with a double mastectomy and a DIEP flap reconstruction on September 11, 2024.
At the time of her reconstruction, she felt a sense of relief with the hope of being able to watch her kids grow up, and to avoid chemo and radiation in her life.
Megan is thankful to Dr. Yoho and his team. “A little over a year after surgery, I feel great. My strength is returning and I am happy when I look in the mirror,” she says. “Dr. Yoho and his team at Crystal Clinic Plastic Surgeons made my mastectomy and reconstruction much easier and less scary than I ever expected.”
Megan advises women facing a cancer diagnosis or prophylactic mastectomy to stay positive. “A good attitude is great medicine. Embrace your scars, they are a physical reminder of your toughness and bravery. Lean on your village and allow people to help you.”
She chose to walk the Pink Runway for her children – “to show that we can go through hard things, heal, and come out better than ever. Plus, who doesn’t love a good party?!”
