“It is important to know your body, advocate for yourself, trust your instincts, and still manage to have some fun along the way!”

Sarah’s Story

Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer at 30 years old. While nursing her then five-month-old daughter Clare, she thought she had a clogged milk duct. Instead, she was diagnosed with Stage 3C Triple-negative breast cancer. She underwent 12 rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, 30 rounds of radiation, and clinical trials. Her miracle baby, Ben, was born one day before her two-year remission date. In December 2022 she underwent a DIEP Flap reconstruction with Dr. Cody. In September 2024, Dr. Cody performed a vascularized lymph node transfer to address the lymphedema she was experiencing after her mastectomy.

“Dr. Yoho and his staff were my hope when
I was overwhelmed by uncertainty.”

Danyell’s Story

After Danyell’s personal history didn’t meet the criteria for high risk, she paid for a breast MRI out of pocket. She was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ Grade 3 in June 2023. She underwent a double mastectomy with DIEP Flap reconstruction by Dr. Yoho. At the time of her surgery she just wanted to look and feel as much like herself as possible.

“My team was there for me, even through all my hurdles, and made it that much better for me.”

Alexis’ Story

Alexis underwent a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with a DIEP Flap reconstruction with Dr. Diulus. She chose the DIEP Flap because she thought it would be the best choice for her body. At the time of her reconstruction she hoped for her breasts to look as normal and natural as possible. And, even after some complications, she is very grateful and happy with everything. Every day it gets a little easier!

“You can feel comfortable knowing that they’re going to take care of you.”

Lynn’s Story

After undergoing a double mastectomy, Lynn shares her breast reconstruction journey and encourages women to consider all their options for breast reconstruction.

“I feel so fortunate I found this group of people. They’ve treated me like family, and I feel the same about them.”

Erin’s Story

After a genetic test revealed an ATM gene mutation, her breast surgeon, Dr. Victoria VanFossen, recommended changing the plan of action from a lumpectomy to a bilateral mastectomy. She went to see Dr. Mirhaidari later that same day, had her first full breakdown, and Dr. Mirhaidari helped make her feel better about the whole thing.
