Kate

Kate has two children, Sydney, 27 and Tommy, 17. She has worked at Soprema for three years as a customer service specialist. Prior to that, she was the Christian Education Director at First Christian Church in Wadsworth. She loves spending time with friends and family outside around a fire!

Kate’s cancer was found during a routine mammogram in January 2023. She was diagnosed with Stage 0 ductal carcinoma in situ in the left breast. She underwent a total mastectomy and a DIEP flap reconstruction with Dr. Derek Cody and Dr. Lewis Diulus.

At the time of her reconstruction, she wanted to feel “normal” with two breasts that were the same size and smaller. Now she feels like a new person! “I’m so glad that I did the DIEP flap reconstruction, because for me, the implants didn’t work,” Kate shared. “I couldn’t be happier with the end result.”

Kate advises other women facing a cancer diagnosis and reconstruction surgery to have a strong support system, and “know that you aren’t ‘married’ to the doctor. If something doesn’t sit well, then get a second opinion. I’m so glad I did because that’s what led me to Crystal Clinic! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the whole process. Not once did my questions go unanswered or my fear downplayed.”

“I am walking the Pink Runway to celebrate my new lease on life, and to encourage other women who are just starting this journey that there is always hope. This is just a little blip in the game of life!”
