Elaine
Elaine and her husband Rod recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Together they have three daughters, who are all medical professionals. Elaine enjoyed a 42 year career as a registered nurse, retiring in 2022. Outdoor activities are her passion. She enjoys hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, and visiting the National Parks.
Elaine’s daughter, Sarah Bokoviz, who is also a model for Pink Runway, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 30. Genetic testing was recommended, and it was discovered that Elaine had the BRACA2 gene. She decided to undergo a prophylactic mastectomy.
At the time, her hopes for reconstruction were to have natural looking breasts that made her feel woman. Even though she was in her 60’s she still wanted to have reconstruction surgery. She initially underwent implant-based reconstruction, which ultimately had to be removed because her body developed scar tissue around them and the area became uncomfortable and hard. Elaine then underwent a DIEP Flap procedure with Dr. Cody, and her breasts now feel soft and natural. Having experienced recoveries from both implant and DIEP Flap reconstruction, Elaine felt the DIEP Flap reconstruction was only slightly more difficult.
Elaine walks the Pink Runway to support all the women that had cancer and had to endure difficult treatments. “These women are the heroes, as well as the doctors who make them feel whole again,” she shared.
“I am more than happy with my results from Dr. Cody and his team. We are so fortunate to have Dr. Cody and the other excellent surgeons from Crystal Clinic Plastic Surgeons in our area, and I am so thankful that they can help women – especially those post-cancer – to feel complete again.”
