Danyell

Danyell is a glass half-full, it’s better with glitter, you can’t make me doubt HIM type of woman! As a licensed psychotherapist, she enjoys helping others and giving back to her community. She loves cooking, crafting, and laughing any chance she gets!  She is married to her high school sweetheart, and has three adult children of whom she is incredibly proud.

After Danyell’s personal history didn’t meet the criteria for high risk, she paid for a breast MRI out of pocket. She was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ Grade 3 in June, 2023.  She underwent a double mastectomy with DIEP Flap reconstruction by Dr. Yoho. At the time of her surgery she just wanted to look and feel as much like herself as possible.

“I felt relieved that my results were so natural,” she shared. “I also felt determined to enjoy my new body!”

Danyell advises other women facing a cancer diagnosis that “Tears are an appropriate response, and so is swearing. Ask lots of questions. Then find a doctor willing to answer them. Embrace your tribe – you need the help, company, and encouragement. The physical scars don’t last nearly as long as the emotional ones… get into therapy and support groups.”

Danyell chose to walk the Pink Runway because she is “grateful to be alive AND I feel pretty!”

“Dr. Yoho and his staff were my hope when I was overwhelmed by uncertainty,” she shared. “They saturated my thoughts of what’s next with empowered decisions regarding my body and physical future. That was something I desperately needed after a cancer diagnosis left me feeling like I had no control. They were kind, genuine, empathetic, and knowledgeable.”
