Carolyn
Carolyn met her husband at 19, and they have been together ever since. They’ve been married for 16 years and have 13-year-old twins. She is an animal lover and regularly fosters cats and kittens. She loves her job running 2 online vintage stores and says she couldn’t survive without books.
Carolyn was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at the age of 46, following a routine mammogram. She had a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction with Dr. Daniel Yoho.
She says, “It’s a very personal decision, but I didn’t feel good without breasts. I hoped the reconstruction would help me move forward in life feeling like myself again.”
The reconstruction gave her exactly what she hoped for—to feel comfortable in her body and for her body to match the way she feels on the inside.
She advises other women facing breast cancer to give yourself lots of time. You don’t have to feel good or heal on anyone’s timeline but your own. Give yourself grace and compassion, just as you would a friend or loved one.
Carolyn is so grateful for Dr. Yoho and his staff, saying, “A simple thank you feels inadequate for the level of care I received and the difference it made to me and my family.”
She walks the Pink Runway for her husband and her kids and says, “They have been my biggest supporters, and I want them to know I’m okay, actually better than okay. It’s important to take the time to celebrate where we are now.”
