Alexis
Alexis is the proud mother of two daughters, ages 11 and 8 years old. She has worked as a pharmacy technician for ten years, both in the retail and hospital settings. She loves being around family, whether that involves camping or just lazy days!
Alexis underwent a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with a DIEP Flap reconstruction with Dr. Diulus. She chose the DIEP Flap because she thought it would be the best choice for her body. At the time of her reconstruction she hoped for her breasts to look as normal and natural as possible. And, even after some complications, she is very grateful and happy with everything. Every day it gets a little easier!
Alexis tells other women that choosing reconstruction is scary and hard, but you have to ultimately do what is best for you and your body. “You have to go into this with a mindset of ‘this too shall pass’ and tomorrow is another day.”
“Even though I am not a breast cancer survivor, I chose to walk the Pink Runway in support of women – to let them know that there are other ways and options, and another choice,” Alexis said. “You have to look at all options and make your decision. I did this for my daughters, to that they know there are options, even with our family history.”
“I am ultimately more than pleased with my results,” said Alexis. “I feel I can breathe a little easier at the end of the day. I am grateful that this was a path I could go down. My team was there for me, even through all my hurdles, and made it that much better for me. I couldn’t be more pleased with my plastics team!”
