The movement of brow muscles causes the skin to crease over time. Botulinum toxin injections (BTX) are a temporary solution for the treatment of these wrinkles. BTX injections are often referred to by the product name BOTOX®. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections into the muscles surrounding the furrow or frown lines of the face keep them from contracting (or scrunching up). This reduction in wrinkles typically lasts for up to four months.
When will BOTOX® start to work?
Within days, youll see a significant improvement that may continue to improve for as long as a week.
No downtime
Since the procedure is nonsurgical, no recovery time is needed. You can get back to work or other activities right away. The simple procedure usually takes about 10 minutes and can be performed in the physicians office.
Possible side effects
Possible side effects include local numbness, swelling, bruising or a burning sensation during injection. Some patients have reported temporary headache and nausea. Most complications are of short duration and can be avoided with proper injection techniques.
Safe and effective
BOTOX® Cosmetic has been approved by the US governments Food and Drug Administration for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar (frown) lines in adult patients aged 65 years or younger.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) long experience has proven BTX to be safe. To date, no systemic complications associated with BTX injections have been documented.
