Skin Cancer Treatment

Crystal Clinic Plastic Surgeons can provide treatment for all types of skin cancers, including melanoma. We are proud to have on staff Dr. Lawrence Cervino, who has extensive experience with melanoma and is recognized as a regional leader in the diagnosis and treatment of this dangerous skin cancer type.

Perhaps the most common cancer in the world, skin cancer accounts for 75% of all cancer diagnoses. Nearly half of all Americans will have some type of skin cancer by age 65.

Melanoma, which is the most dangerous type of skin cancer, can start in heavily pigmented tissue, such as a mole or birthmark, as well as in normally pigmented skin. Melanoma most commonly appears first on extremities, chest, or back, although it can occasionally arise on the palm of the hand; on the sole of the foot; under a fingernail or toenail; in the mucus linings of the mouth, vagina, or anus; and even in the eye.

This type of skin cancer typically occurs in adults, but can be found occasionally in children and adolescents. Just as with any other form of cancer, melanoma is best treated when it is diagnosed early.

Major advances have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma. Learn more from Dr. Cervino.
